End of the glory road for Scotland men in


Europe, beaten 4-3 by Sweden in first tie

Scotland, bidding to win the European men's amateur team championship for a third time in a row, had their hopes shattered in a 4-3 defeat by Sweden in their opening championship flight tie at Diamond Country Club, Austria.
After losing the foursomes 2-0, the Scots pulled level at 3-3 with singles wins by Robert Macintyre, Liam Johnston and Connor Syme.
It all hinged on the last tie between Anglo Scot Ryan Lumsden and Fredrik Nilehn, the Swede winning by one hole to KO Scotland's hopes. The best they can do now is to finish fifth.

C Syme and C Howie lost to J Svensson and C Palsson 3 and 2.
R MacIntyre and J Stewart lost to F Nilehn and T Widing at 19th.
MacIntyre bt M Svensson 4 and 3.
L Johnston bt A Blomme 4 abd 2,
Howie lost to J Svensson 5 and 3.
Syme bt Widing 4 and 2.
R Lumsden lost to Nilehn 1 hole.


None of the other Scotland teams qualified for championship flights.
