Inverness win North club team championship
By ROBIN WILSON
The Inverness Golf Club trio of Cameron Franssen, Jonathon
Keith and Kieran MacKay won the North District's Club Team event at Golspie, bringing to an end Nairn's two-year reign as best club in the
North.
Yet it was Nairn's Fraser Fotheringham, a member of the team
who won for the last two years, who inspired his team-mates in round one with a
level par 70, the highlight being four
successive birdies on the back nine (11th, 12th, 13th and 14th) for
an inward half of 32 to add to his first nine of 38.
Fotheringham added an even better second round of one under
par 69 (35-34) while clubmates
Finlay Asher scored 73 and 76 and Jamie MacKintosh 80 and76. The best
two from each round added up to a total of 288 to end up in second place.
It was a young and talented Inverness team who bettered the
Nairn total by one. St. Andrews student Cameron Franssen (73-71), last season's
two big winners, club champion Jonathon Keith (72-74) and Four-Day Open winner
Kieran Mackay (80-71) whose best of two from each round added to 287 to earn the
trip to the Scottish final to be played at Eastwood Golf Club on September 24
and hopefully onward to the European final.
An Inverness second team of John Forbes (71-70), David Joel
(80-74) and Bruce Thomson combined for a best of four total of 293 and finish in
third place. Topping a great weekend for
Inverness Golf Club, members Calum Reid, Robbie Fyfe and Michael Walker won
the three-ball better-ball event at Muir of Ord Golf Club.
The individual leading 36 hole totals at Golspie were:
139 Fraser Fotheringham (Nairn) 70 69.
141 John Forbes (Inverness) 71 70
144
Cameron Franssen (Inverness) 73 71.
As the competition was a North Order of
Merit counting event, all these players added to their existing points totals which,
after four events, shows the leaders as:

Fotheringham (Nairn), 175, M Wilson (Forres) 165, J Forbes (Inverness) 140, D
