The County Stroke
Play Championship of the Renfrewshire Golf Union was held at a beautifully
presented Elderslie Golf Club on Sunday 14 August and the courtesy of Elderslie
Golf Club given to the Renfrewshire Golf Union for the use of the course during
the event was much appreciated..
Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm Golf Club), pictured below, returned to county golf competition after representing
Scotland in the Home Internationals at Nairn Golf Club the previous
week.
His credentials
as an international player were on show when he completed the morning round
with a two under par round of 68 to lead by two shots from the Boys Champion of
Champions Paul Dorrian (Greenock Golf Club) on 70.
One shot further
back were on 71 were 3 players, Kenny Fairbrother (Cochrane Castle),
David McFarlane (Greenock) and Andy Jamieson (Paisley).
In the afternoon
round Matt Clark consolidated his position with a 3 under par round of 67 for a
total of 135.
This proved a
step too far for the other competitors with Paul Dorrian being the only one of
the morning chasing pack to feature with a solid 71 for a 141 total and second
place, with Stewart Watt (Old Course Ranfurly) having the only other under
par round of the day a 69 to give him third place on 142 (73 – 69).
The leading
available 16 qualifiers now go forward to compete in the Match Play
Championship again over Elderslie Golf Club with the Semi-Final and Final held
on Sunday 28th August.
Due to work
commitments Matt Clark is unable to play but all other leading players are in
the field.
Full results of
the event can be found under Renfrewshire Golf Union on How did I Do.
