JAY TAYLOR LEADING SCOT AT PENINA CLASSIC III
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Portugal-based Jay Taylor spearheaded the four Scots' challenge in today's first round of the Algarve Pro Tour's 36-hole Penina Classic III. He shot a three-under-par 70 to be joint ninth, four shots behind the leader, former Walker Cup player Max Orrin from Margate, Keith.
The other Scots struggled on the Penina Hotel course originally designed by the late Sir Henry Cotton. Alan Welsh shot a 75 for joint 40th position. Ben Craggs had a 76 for T45 and Craig Lawrie could do no better than a 77 for joint 50th position in a field of 84 players.
