HAY AND BINNING FINISH T17 IN PGA

FOUR-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN SPAIN

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Gavin Hay (Grantown on Spey) and Sam Binning (Ranfurly Castle) teamed up to finish joint 17th of the 42 pairs who made the second-round cut in the PGAs of Europe four-ball championship at Lumine Golf Club in north-east Spain today (Thursday).

The only Scots in the field, Hay (pictured left) and Binning (pictured below) had better-ball scores of 68, 67 and 64 for a 15-under-par total of 199 over the Hills (par 72) and Lakes (par 71) courses.
The tournament was won by Spain's Puig Giner and Arnaus Antunex with rounds of 63, 61 and 62 for a 28-under total of 186 and a four-stroke victory from another Spanish pair, Jordia Garcia del Moral and Carlos del Moral Barilari (64-63-63 for 190).

England's Jordan Gibb and Liam Murray finished third on 192 (65-63-64).
All the pairs who made the final round earned prizemoney.
Said Gavin Hay in an Email to Scottishgolfview.com:
"I don't know exactly how much Sam and I have won because it has not yet been released. From the prize fund we saw at the course we are guessing about 800 euros total so roughly 400 each.
"It was a great first event of the year for us both. We were both a bit rusty but a great event that we recommend more Scottish PGA pros to enter next year."
