Nine-birdie round by Sam Locke boosts him to T12 place in African championship

Scottish amateur champion Sam Locke from Stonehaven had a bag of nine birdies in a third-round, five-under-par 67 at the African men's amateur stroke-play championship at Glendower Golf Club today.

Locke's birdies at the first, third, sixth, eighth, 11th, 12th, 13th, 16th and 17th were offset by a double bogey 7 at the par-5 15th and bogeys at the fifth and 14th.
The Scot, pictured, moved up to a share of 12th place on level par 216, 13 strokes behind the runaway leader - by seven - South Africa Jamie du Preez who has had scores of 69, 70 and 64 for 13-under 213.
Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) is on one-over par 217 and sharing 16th place after scores of 76, 70 and 71.
Peebles' Darren Howie is joint 27th on 219 with rounds of 75, 74 and 70.
Calum Fyfe (Cawder) has scored 74, 73 and 73 for 220 and joint 32nd place.
John Paterson (St Andrews New) made the cut with three strokes to spare, his tally of 227 for a share of 55th place in a field of 90 being made up of rounds of 78, 73 and 76.
