Top Scot Euan Walker finishes in T14 position behind South African 1-2-3

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
South Africans filled the first three places in the final totals at the end of the African men's amateur golf championship at Glendower Golf Club today.
James du Preez from Pretoria won the title by a three-stroke margin with scores of 69, 70, 64 and 71 for 14-under-par 274.'
Chris Lamprecht junior was runner-up on 277 (74-69-68-66) and Martin Vorster was third with rounds of 73, 69, 68 and 65 for 278.
Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) was the leading Scot in joint 14th position with scores of 76, 70, 71 and 72 for one-over 289. He undoubtedly would have made the top 10 but for that disappointing first round.
Scottish champion Sam Locke finished on a low note with a round of four-over-par 75 following scores of 74, 75 and 67. His three-over aggregate of 291 earned him a share of 24th place. The Stonehaven Golf Club member had only two birdies in his final round after chalking up five in the first round, three in the second and nine birdies in round three.
Darren Howie (Peebles) finished joint 26th on 292 with scores of 75, 74, 70 and 73 for 292.
Cawder's Calum Fyfe shared 44th position with rounds of 74, 73, 73 and 77 for 297.
John Paterson (St Andrews New) finished 63rd among the 66 players who made the cut. He had scores of 78, 73, 76 and 78 for 305.
