Broadhurst battles wind and rain     to lead Scottish Senior Open EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS Less than a week after finishing tied 15th as he attempted to defend his Senior Open Championship, Paul Broadhurst  (pictured today by courtesy of Getty Images) fired a first round of 65 at Renaissance Club to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Scottish Senior Open.   The Englishman, who won this tournament on his European Senior Tour debut in 2015, carded six birdies before a bogey on the 18th hole saw him finish with a five under par total in testing conditions in North Berwick.   After competing in The Open at Royal Birkdale and then Senior Open Championship at Royal Porthcawl, Broadhurst believes he is becoming accustomed to the weather traditionally associated with links courses.   “Wind and rain is all I’ve played in over the last three weeks,” said Broadhurst. "I’m getting used to it, but it’s never easy. You’re never sure what sort of score you’ll post.   “I played really well today and hit some quality iron shots. You needed to pick your shot, hit it off the back foot, and drill it low today.
