Cameron Black masters Newburgh wind to win

Cameron Black, 16-year-old Royal Aberdeen Golf Club junior member, won the Paul Lawrie North-east U18s boys championship by a resounding six strokes over two rounds at Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club today (Thursday).
Black made light of the windy conditions to return scores of 75 and 73 for a four-over-par total of 148. His one-over-par 73 in the afternoon was the lowest score of the day when he had birdies at the fourth, fifth, ninth, 10th and 17th in halves of 35 and 38.
Two players, Liam Strath (Hazlehead) and Jonathan Bell (Royal Aberdeen) finished joint second on 154. Strath, who recently helped Hazlehead to win the Maitland Shield, had the better second round of 77 to win the second scratch prize.
Bell, the long-time clubhouse leader with rounds of 74 and 80,  finished third with Brad Murray (Inverallochy) fourth on 155 (77-78.
The four players with the leading 36-hole aggregates normally go forward to contest the Bill Brown Trophy NE U18 boys' match-play tournament but Bell and fourth-placed Cameron Fraser (Peterculter) were unavailable to play again on Friday. Their places were taken by Murray and Ruari Mair (Buboys'ckpool). 
The semi-finals, Black v Mair and Strath v Murray, wlll tee off at 9am and 9.10 on Friday. The final will start at 1pm.
Mair won the Under-16 years boys' title with a pair of 78s for 156.
Finlay Wallace (Portlethen) won the handicap aggregate award. Playing off 11 he had a net total of 136 (64-72).
Second handicap prize went to Fergus Hutcheson (Inverallochy) and third place was gained by Cameron Fraser (Peterculter).
