Portuguese senior

pairs by six strokes

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
The Scottish pairing of Nick Robson (left in picture) from Aberdeen and Dunblane's David Shields scored an outstanding six-shot victory today (WED) in the 10th Portuguese international seniors' pairs championship at Estoril Golf Club.
Leaders by two shots with a 65 after the first-round better-ball play, Robson (Meldrum House) and Shields (Gleneagles) tripled their advantage with an excellent greensomes round of six-under 66.
Three pairs finished joint second on 137 - England's Paul Bloomfield and Nigel Evans, and Anthony Flanagan and Neil Self, as well as Ireland's Patrick Bevins and Eamon Haugh.
The next best Scottish pair were Keith Bruce (Edzell) and Ian Brotherston (Dumfries and Co) whose 143 aggregate (70-73) earned them a share of 10th place in the international field of 36 pairs.
