Portugal Pro Tour event north of Lisbon

PAUL LAWRIE FINISHES THIRD, BEATEN

BY ONE SHOT,  AFTER BOGEY AT LAST

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

Paul Lawrie bogeyed the last hole in his final round and finished third, only one shot away from making it a triple tie on seven-under-par 209 alongside Pedro Figueiredo (Portugal) and England's Jamie Abbott at the Bom Sucesso Classic Grand Final at Bom Sucesso Golf Club, Obidos, north of Lisbon.

Lawrie, the first-round leader, had scores of 66, 73 and 71 for a total of 210. He earned £1,253.

In his final round, the 1999 Open champion from Aberdeen birdied the long fourth, eighth, 11th, 12th and long 17th in halves of 37 (level par) and 34. He dropped shots at the second, sixth and 15th.
Paul's elder son, Craig Lawrie (21) tied for fifth place on 213 with scores of 69, 73 and 73 and earned £450
Perthshire's Wallace Booth, the leading Scot after 36 holes, had a calamitous final round of 78 which demoted him to a share of 14th place on level par 216. His earlier rounds were two 69s.
Figueiredo beat Abbott in a sudden death play-off for first prize with a birdie at the second extra hole.
