PAUL LAWRIE LEADS BY TWO IN


PORTUGAL WITH A 66

Paul Lawrie leads a 54-hole Portugal Pro Golf Tour event, the Bom Sucesso Classic, at Bom Sucesso Golf Club, Obidos (on Portugal's western Atlantic coast, about 75km north of Lisbon) by two strokes with a first-round, six-under-par 66 today (Monday).

  The 1999 Open champion from Aberdeen had an eagle 3 at the long third and birdies at the short fifth, 11th, 12th and 15th in bogey-free halves of 34 and 32.

Englishman Jamie Abbot is lying second with a 68.

  Paul's elder son, 21-year-old Craig Lawrie, and Perthshire's Wallace Booth are bracketed with England's Craig Farrelly on the three-under 69 mark.

Craig, like his father, had an eagle (a 2 at the par-4 eighth), and a birdie at the long seventh in a bogey-free round.

Booth's 69 included a double bogey 7 at the par-5 fourth which cancelled out his eagle 3 at the second but birdies at the seventh, short 10th and 16th in halves of 36-33 hoisted him to three-under-par by the finish.
