No 1 seed Chris Maclean toppled in first round

Stirling student Chris Maclean, who earned the No 1 seed status in the Spanish men's amateur international golf championship, was beaten in the first round at El Saler Golf Club, Valencia today.
His conqueror was Welshman Jack Davidson, the last of the 32 qualifiers for the match-play stages.
Davidson beat the Scot 2 and 1 and then won his second round tie  to reach the quarter-finals.
Other British and Irish players through to the last eight with two victories today were England's Marco Penge (seeded 14) and Harry Goddard (seeded 6) and Ireland's Kevin Leblanc (seeded 20).
