CRAIG LAWRIE CLICKETY-CLICKS TO

SCORE 1st NE ALLIANCE WIN OF SEASON

                                                                              By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Craig Lawrie scored his first outright win on the 2016-17 North-east Golfers' Alliance circuit in a mixed bag of weather at Duff House Golf Club, Banff today.
Lawrie, 21, shot a two-under-par 66 to earn £150 by heading a field of 95 players.
"I hit 15 greens in regulation and holed a few putts," said Craig who birdied the fifth, 12th, 13th and 15th in halves of 33. He had two bogeys, at the 14th and 16th.
The early starters had the best of the sunny weather which disappeared when heavy rain and high winds set in before lunchtime. The later starters had the worst of it. "Brutal conditions," was the description of one player who endured it. But the same player battled on. There were comparatively few No Returns, despite the back weather.
Well done, Alliance members!
Craig Lawrie's 66 stood unchallenged until another Paul Lawrie Golf Centre player, Greig Hutcheon, came in late in the day with a 67 (35-32) in which he deviated from par at only three holes - a bogey at the seventh and birdies at the 10th and 13th.
Paul Lawrie finished third behind his elder son and Hutch with a 69. He had four birdies, three of them on an inward half of one-over 35, when he interspersed them with bogeys at the 11th, 14th, 16th and 18th.
Paul, playing in the same trio as Craig and nephew Sean Lawrie, who had a 72, had "only" a couple of holes to play when the bad weather set in. The fine, sunny weather returned late in the afternoon. Well, it is March, after all!
Amateurs Fergus Bisset (Banchory) and Strathlene's Jake Scott finished fourth and fifth with rounds of 70 and 71 respectively.
Four-handicapper Bisset was left rueing a double bogey 6 at the eighth and bogeys at the second, fifth, 14th and 17th. He had a great birdie run of 2-4-2 over the 11th, 12th and 13th in an inward 33.
