Campbell and Thomson share North Scottish Alliance victory in the rain with 70s at Elgin

JOHN D Campbell (Grantown on Spey) and Kevin Thomson (Moray) jointly headed a field of 64 with contrasting two-over-par 70s in Saturday's North Scottish Alliance competition, played in pouring rain at Elgin Golf Club.

Campbell started with a double bogey but parred every hole after that until he got to the 16th which he birdied. A bogey at the 18th dropped him back to two over the card.

Thomson would have won with ease but for a quadruple bogey at the 14th. He birdied the second, fourth, 10th, 11th and 15th to offset bogeys at the first, fifth and ninth.

Neither Campbell nor Thomson had won previously on the 2016-17 Alliance campaign.

They finished three strokes clear of the joint third-placed Lewis Reid (Fortrose and Rosemarkie) and Jordan Shaw (Boat of Garten).
