Robert Jenkins wins Spanish senior amateur title

SCOTTISH GOLF NEWS RELEASE
Royal Troon’s Robert Jenkins is savouring a sweet Spanish success after lifting the nation’s senior amateur crown over the weekend.
The Scot secured a fine triumph in the Spanish International Senior Amateur Championship, played at Las Colinas Golf and Country Club.
Jenkins posted a total of 214 after rounds of 70, 70 and 74 to see off two Englishmen – Ian Crowther and Douglas Cameron. Crowther finished a stroke behind on 215, with Cameron on 218.
Royal Troon, pictured top and the venue for last summer’s Open Championship, were among the clubs to congratulate Jenkins on his triumph.

Syme Set for European Tour Chance
Drumoig’s Connor Syme, last year’s Australian Amateur champion, will join his Scotland colleagues in South Africa for their final event, the African Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Leopard Creek from 28 February until 3 March.
Beforehand, the world amateur-ranked No. 14 has been handed the chance to compete on the European Tour in next week’s Joburg Open. Syme is one of four amateurs to be given invitations for the event, which takes place from 23 – 26 February at Royal Johannesburg and  Kensington GC.
Syme’s opportunity comes after he competed with the professionals in the Emirates Australian Open before Christmas, by virtue of winning the Australian Amateur crown.
“It should be a great few weeks down in South Africa,” said Syme, on Twitter. “Thank you Scottish Golf, Dunhill Links and Aberdeen Asset Management for this amazing opportunity.”
Syme – a member of the Scotland Men’s side that won last year’s European Amateur title – will join fellow Scots Marc Warren, David Drysdale, Scott Jamieson, Duncan Stewart and Scott Henry in the European Tour field.
