Rory McIlroy back in form with a 64

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida – No one ever won the Players Championship on a Friday, but Rory McIlroy surely won some sort of battle with his 8-under 64 in the second round today.
The Ulsterman hit 10 of 14 fairways, 13 of 18 greens in regulation, and took just 22 putts compared to 30 while shooting a disappointing even-par 72 the day before.
He also shot under par on the front nine—his second nine Friday—for just the second time.
Simply put, he was in command. Still, he was a bit glum afterward.
"I'm disappointed," McIlroy said. "It should have been a couple better. Instead of being two behind the lead I feel like I should be tied for the lead."
With a chance to birdie the par-5 ninth hole, his last of the day, and shoot a course-record 62, McIlroy dumped his 90yd approach shot in the heavy rough short of the green and bogeyed the hole. That left him two behind co-leaders Jonas Blixt (67) and Alex Cejka (67) with much of the afternoon wave yet to tee off.

Wilcox has hole in one at Sawgrass 17th!

Surrounded by some of the most famous water in golf, Will Wilcox ended one of the sport's more curious droughts.
With a pitching wedge from 147 yards, Wilcox carded a hole-in-one on the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass, just the seventh there in Players Championship history since moving to this course in 1982.
Even more bizarre is that it had been 14 years since Miguel Angel Jimenez had the last ace on this hole during the tournament -- a span of more than 6,300 tee shots.
Upon holing his tee shot using a yellow ball, Wilcox exuberantly pumped his fist and celebrated with his caddie and playing partners. As he walked toward the green, he high-fived seemingly every spectator within arm's reach.
It was the first hole-in-one for Wilcox in his US PGA Tour career. There have now been 22 aces on the US PGA Tour during the 2015-16 season.
MORE SECOND-ROUND NEWS
Adam Scott bounced back from a quadruple bogey at the 18th in Round 1 to shoot a 65 in Round 2.The Aussie is on 138.

Sergio Garcia is on 138 after a 66.

Leader Jason Day has an afternoon starting time in the second round.

Dustin's kid brother caddie saves him two-shot penalty

Dustin Johnson had his little brother to thank for avoiding a two-shot penalty after a bizarre incident on the fourth hole at TPC Sawgrass.
Johnson slipped to five under for The Players Championship on day two after a bogey 6 at the second, and he found the green safely at the fourth before causing himself a big problem after marking his ball.
He intended to toss his ball to caddie and younger brother Austin, but it slipped out of his hand on his backswing and landed in the stream that guards the left side of the green.

The rules of golf state that you have to complete a hole with the same ball you started it with, so Dustin would have been hit with a two-shot penalty if he was unable to locate the sunken sphere.
But Austin, who was wearing a protective cast on his right hand, had no hesitation in jumping into the water - shoes and all - to retrieve the ball, and Dustin went on to par the hole before completing a second straight 70.
