England international Stracey from Bucks

wins North of Scotland Seniors Open at Elgin

By GORDON THOMSON
With a brilliant second round of two-under-par 67, Andrew Stracey, a member of Denham Golf Club, Uxbridge in Buckinghamshire,   charged through the field to post a total of three-over 141 and  win the North of Scotland Seniors Open (sponsored by McCrea Financial Services) by three strokes  at Elgin Golf Club today.
Nick Robson (Meldrum House), winner of the Seniors' Spring Open at Monifieth, was second after a fine score of 70 to produce an aggregate of 144.
Maurice Lindsay (Broughty), who was the runner-up to Robson at Monifieth, added a fine 68 today to share third place with John Fraser (Royal Burgess) and Robert Smith (Nairn) on 146.
Duncan Hamilton (Mortonhall) was sixth on 147 with Graham Bell (Downfield) a shot further back in joint seventh place with the holder, Ronnie Clark
(Erskine).
A regular visitor to events in Scotland, Stracey is aged 62 and an English senior international who plays off a plus 1 handicap. In 2012 he became the oldest winner of the President's Putter which is the prestigious event for members of the Oxford and Cambridge  Golfing Society and he also a past winner of the Irish seniors' open amateur championship.
Stracey had looked set for a good first round on Thursday when he turned in 34 but then faded to an inward half of 40.
Determined to do better today and turning in 33, Andrew made fine
birdies at holes 15 and 17 to come home in 34 and secure victory.
Elgin again proved to be an excellent and hospitable venue. The course was in fine condition and provided a testing examination for the high quality field.
The CSS for the day was one shot lower today at 73, which compares with the SSS of 71

NORTH OF SCOTLAND SENIORS OPEN
Elgin Golf Club.
