Arnott's 13th career hole in one helps him set pace at rain-hit Senior PGA Championship

FROM THE PGA WEBSITE
Robert Arnott  chalked up the 13th hole-in-one of his golfing career – and third in competition – helping him to set the early pace at the rain-hit Silversea Senior PGA Championship at Foxhills, Surrey
The Bishopbriggs Golf Range professional, pictured, notched the ace on the 180-yard par three 8th on the Bernard Hunt Course on the rain hit first day – but it was only discovered today due to the suspension of play.
The ace played a decisive part in Arnott setting the clubhouse mark of three-under-par 70 on day two of the championship, which will see a majority of the field play 36 holes to get the tournament back on schedule.
Arnott, who has missed the cut on his past two visits to Foxhills, said: “The first 10 holes [yesterday] were no wind and quite calm.
“It was challenging hanging about all day yesterday but it is what it is. I’ve played golf long enough to know that.
“I’ve only ever seen conditions like that once before and that was last year at Gleneagles. It was just torrential. Gleneagles didn’t flood quite like here.
“Given all the rain the course was ok. The greens are a bit soft but there’s a chance to score out there.”
Reflecting on his hole in one, Arnott added: “I got my seven iron and then it was one bounce and straight in for a hole in one.
“I’ve had 12 before this but that’s the first one for maybe four years and it’s a nice time to get it. I’ve had three in competitions.
“I’ve played the last two years and haven’t made the cut as I find it hard to get round. I’m in a good position so I’ll see what happens this afternoon.”
Fellow Scot Murray White, winner of the past two Super 60s titles, and Richard Adams (South Winchester) are on two-under having both completed their first rounds.

LATER NEWS
Robert Arnott leads by two shots with a 36-hole tally of 141 (70-71). Play not yet over for the day.
