Low scoring tournament opens the domestic 72-hole season

MacIntyre wins Scottish champion of

champions' title by a shot from Johnston

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

Robert MacIntyre from Oban, the left-handed winner of the Scottish amateur championship last year, has made a winning start to the 2016 domestic competitive season by capturing the Scottish champion of champions title at Leven links over the weekend.
The Glencruitten Golf Club member, pictured, who recently returned from college in the United States, shot a 21-under-par total of 263 over the par-71 lay-out to win by a single stroke from halfway leader Liam Johnston (Dumfries and County).
MacIntyre surged into the lead with a third-round 65 to Johnston's par 71 but had to shoot a final round of five-under 66 to hold the fast finishing Johnston, also a former US college student, at bay.
Liam closed with a 64 for 264
Former Scottish amateur kingpin Barry Hume (Haggs Castle) who shot the tournament low of 10-under-par 61 in the first round will not be credited with a new course record as preferred lies were in operation.
Hume finished third on 13-under-par 271, seven shots behind runner-up Johnston.
Hume won the Leven Gold Medal tournament over the course last autumn.
