Gordon MacDonald leads seniors' Winter
Order of Merit with one round to play
By GORDON THOMSON
With only the final leg of the Scottish Seniors Golfing Society’s Winter Series left to play, Gordon MacDonald (Glenbervie) has a lead of 7.5 points over the holder, Alan Harrington (Western Gailes).
Alan, however, is unable to play in the last event, making MacDonald’s clubmate, Robin Craw, his nearest challenger,
some 8.9 points behind.
The final event takes place at Prestwick St Cuthbert on Friday, April 1 and should produce an exciting finish as a further seven players have a chance to win the title.
They are Kenneth Harrison (Peebles), the Stirling duo of David
Smith and Bruce Hunter, George Barrie (Callander), Keith Ross (Beith) and Colin Halcrow (Windyhill).
The fourth event was played at Largs on Friday in windy conditions which made scoring difficult. Jim Paterson (Ranfurly Castle) won the event with 35 points, edging out local favourite Tom Sirel, Gordon MacDonald , George Barrie and Kenneth Harrison who were all on 34 points.
Alan Harrington was a shot further
back on 33 points along with David Halkerston (St Andrews New).
