Back problem ends Jonathan Thomson’s

Australian   adventure

FROM ENGLANDGOLF
A back problem has forced England’s Jonathan Thomson to abandon a tour of Australia - just days after finishing runner-up in the first event.
“I’m very disappointed and gutted,” said the 19-year-old from Lindrick, who was second in the Australian Master of the Amateurs Championship at Royal Melbourne.
“I think it's the long flight that has triggered the problem, being 6ft 9in tall and having to fly 26 hours is never a great combination.”
But he went on: “It's a long season and I need to get myself right for the big year ahead. I'm home now and getting myself fixed which is 100% the main priority.”
Thomson was playing in Australia as part of a four-man England Golf squad, alongside Adam Chapman (Windermere), Bradley Moore (Kedleston Park) and Ashton Turner (Kenwick).
The three others will go on to play in the Lake Macquarie Amateur and the New South Wales Amateur before returning in early February.
