If it's any consolation, NZ is having its

worst summer that Jim Hardie can remember

FROM JIM HARDIE IN NEW ZEALAND
Hope all is well back home in Scotland after all the dreadful weather.
Greetings from probably the worst New Zealand summer I have ever experienced, simply awful so far !

The wind has made golf virtually unplayable for close on a month; think we have had two days when it only reached around 30 kph, the rest has been semi-hurricane season !
Now, of course, the drought has broken. Christchurch has had four days of rain, and it's pretty chilly at a mere 11 deg some days !!
Have had a few games, of course, with Sir Bob (Charles), and on a pretty nice day we played at a course about 45k outside Christchurch called Terrace Downs. My oh my, it was my first ever visit, and the scenery was simply mind boggling
There is a very short par 3 , 16th hole, where the drop to the right of the green must be about 1500 feet down to the Rakaia River gorge, what a view down to torqoise blue water, simply unbelievable
I blamed the scenery for allowing the great man to wriggle off the hook, as my partner and I were one up with two to play, and yours truly hit my second to about 20 feet, and with just two putts to record a famous, and rare victory,  managed to three-putt, with the inevitable last hole birdie from Sir Bob's partner, Geoff Saunders, squaring the match !😂😂
Anyone coming to Christchurch simply must play at Terrace Downs, what a place, and in superb condition, as is Shirley golf links !
Hopefully summer shall arrive soon, but of course it's still better than the dreadful scenes of destruction up Ballater way, and of course with the oil industry in further turmoil, I guess a bad Kiwi summer will sound quite nice to a lot of folk !
Met up with Ros Roy, and Mike Mather from Ballater, had a few games, and sampled quite a few of the awesome NZ sav blanc wines with them !
They have now departed for Australia,  to quote Mike, to get some heat !
Hoping that your dreadful weather improves, as I am sure it also must Down Under
Regards to all
Jim Hardie
