Team stroke-play format on Wednesday

Inter-area championship at Montrose on

ends the Scottish seniors' season

By GORDON THOMSON

The Scottish Seniors' Golfing Society season draws to a conclusion on Wednesday when the  Inter-area team championship, decided on a stroke-play format and sponsored by McCrea Financial Services, takes place at Montrose Links.

Ten areas, each fielding a team of six players, are chasing the title which Stirlingshire won last year at Dunbar.
David Gardner (Broomieknowe) and Ian Brotherston (Dumfries and County), fresh from retaining the Senior Home International crown for Scotland last week, lead the Lothians and South teams respectively but are the only members of the winning international team in action.

Predicting a winner in this form of golf is always difficult but the strongest teams appear to be Stirlingshire, Lothians, North-east and Glasgow, all of whom have won the title before and will fancy their chances.
The best five scores count out of six with the sixth score counting in the event of a tie.
