Monty, T3 finish in California, boosts US
Senior Tour season's earnings to $1,894,599
Colin Montgomerie earned $119,300 for a joint third finish in the weekend US Champions Tour event at Pebble Beach, California, the Nature Valley First Tee Open.
Monty was leading with 18 holes to go but bogeyed the 16th and 17th in a closing round of 73 for a final total of seven-under-par 215 over the Pebble Beach courses, par 71 and par 72.
Esteban Toledo, 52, from Mexico won the $300,000 first prize with rounds of 71, 66 and 69 for nine-under 206, one shot ahead of 66-year-old Tom Watson (75-65-67) who earned $176,000.
Vijay Singh (Fiji) and Woody Austin (USA) tied with Monty for third place.
Sandy Lyle shot 68, 73 and 74 for a T23 finish on 215 which earned him $18,180. Also on the 215 mark was Englishmanb Roger Chapman (69-74-72)
Ian Woosnam shot 72, 76 and 76 for 224 and a T68 finish. His payslip amounted to $1,820.
Discounting the money he has already won this year on the European Senior Tour, Montgomerie is lying second in the Champions Tour money table for 2015 with earnings of $1,894,599 from 15 events. In the No 1 position is American Jeff Magget with $2,111,136 from 17 outings.
Sandy Lyle has made $317,822 from 15 events.
