Irishmen boost Walker Cup selection hopes with 2-3 finish in European amateur championship

Irishmen Garry Hurley and Gavin Moynihan boosted their GB and I Walker Cup team selection prospects by finishing second and third today (Saturday) in the European men's international amateur championship at Penati Golf Resort in Slovakia.
Stefano Mazzoli from Italy was the winner with a 19 under par total of 269 (65-67-69-66).
Runner-up Hurley finished only a shot behind with scores of 68, 6i 65 and 72, his final round allowing the winner to make up six shots over the final round.
Moynihan, winner of the Scottish open amateur stroke play championship at Panmure two years ago, had scores of 70, 65, 69, 69 for third place on 271, two behind the winner and one behind compartiot  Hurley.
Only three Scots survived the third-round.
Craig Ross (Kirkhill)  and Connor Syme (Drumoig) tied for 19th place on 275, Ross with scores of 69, 70, 70 and 66, Syme with 72, 66, 69 and 68.
England's top finishers were Scott Gregory and Jonathan Thomson, both on 272. Gregory had rounds of 64, 70, 70 and 66. Thomson scored 69, 64, 66 and 71
