40 players on 146 and better qualify for Sunday's final 36 holes

Stage set for cracking finish to Leven Gold Medal ... two strokes span leading five

Scotland's elite squad of amateurs missed this weekend's Leven Gold Medal to play in Slovakia - but nobody is missing them at the oldest amateur stroke-play golf tournament in the world.
The stage is set for a cracking final 36 holes on Sunday at the Fife links venue with three players sharing the lead on six-under-par 136
Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie) had has rouns of 67 and 69, Bryan Fotheringham (Inverness) 70 and 66, and certainly not last but least, former Scottish amateur champion and reinstated amateur, Barry Hume (Haggs Castle) who has  returned a pair of 67s.
"There's life in the old dog yet," said Fotheringham, who deserved more than one Scotland cap in his long competitive career.
"Conditions were ideal in the morning but tougher in the afternoon when the wind started to rise," said the man from Forres originally but now based in Inverness.
"So how did I manage a 66 in the afternoon following a 70? I had five birdies and a self-induced only bogey at the 18th because I did not have a go to get on the green in two because of the wind. and the real danger of coming up short and landing in the is atater.
"I deliberately laid up my second, hoping to salvauge a pitch-and-putt 4 but it didn't happen. Still, I am delighted to be in the mix with guys like Graeme Robertson and Barry Hume."
First-round leader Singapore-born Jeff Wright, 22, from Forres is snapping at the heels of the leading trio after he followed his first-round 65 with a 72. He is one behind them on 137 as is a third Highlander in the leading five players - Kyle Gordsman (Moray) from Hopeman.
The former US college circuit player has scored 68-69 so far.
Good or bad luck could decide the outcome when it is as close as this.
Rory Smith (Marriott Dalmahoy) had his stroke of fortune in a morning 69 at the par-3 ninth where he holed his tee shot.
A total of 40 players with aggregates of 146 and better qualified for Sunday's 36 holes.
