Inverness senior leads after first qualifying round at Stirling

By GORDON THOMSON
Laurie Chancellor (Inverness) leads after the first qualifying round of the Scottish amateur seniors' match-play  championship at Stirling with an excellent score of 70 on a course playing its full length after the recent spell of rain.
Play began later than planned following a 90minute delay to allow some waterlogged greens to clear  but Chancellor was quickly into his stride to compile a fine score.
Bob Stewart (Tulliallan) and Angus Lamond (Glasgow) are two shots back on 72 with Rob Craw (Glenbervie ), Joe McManus (Uphall) and Graham Bell (Downfield ) a shot further back on 73.
The top 32 players after 36 holes will progress to the knock-out stages and with 39 players on 79 or better, Tuesday will see an interesting battle for the qualifying places.
Title-holder Malcolm Reid (Sonning) will not be joining them, having had to retire through injury.

The best net score of the day came from local player, James Strang (Stirling) with a fine net score of 67,playing off 8. The CSS  was 73 for the par 72 course.
