Golf Data Lab Scottish youths championship first day

Alastair Thurlow's six-under 65 gives him a four-shot lead at Irvine

Murrayfield's Alastair Thurlow slipped the field on the opening day of the Golf Data Lab Scottish youths golf championship at Irvine Golf Club, Ayrshire.
Thurlow shot a six-under-par 65 which game him a four-stroke lead from a group of six. They included Robert MacIntyre (Glencruitten) from Oban, the left-hander who won this title in 2013.
Thurlow had halves of 35 and 30, birdieing the first, ninth, 10th, 14th, 16th, 17th and 18th. His only bogey came at the long second.
MacIntyre ran up a double bogey 6 at the ninth which put him out in one-over-par 37 but he came home in 32 with birdies at the 14th, 16th and 18th.
