Ironside sails in as NE senior champion

Fraserburgh Harbour Master Andrew Ironside, a one-handicap golfer, won the Marshall Leisure North-east District Seniors championship over 18 holes at Craibstone Golf Club, Bucksburn today.
Making his debut in the tournament at the age of 62, Ironside headed a field of 47 players with an excellent two-under-par round of 67. He won by two strokes from Ian Angus with David Fleming (Portlethen), the district vice-president. third with a 70.
Fleming won the Class 1 handicap with a net 64 off six so the third scratch prize went to Cullen's Alan Ross with a 71.
"I've never played in the North-east District seniors championship before because I've always been busy in my job at the same time as the event is usually played," said Andrew who birdied the fifth, 14th and 16th in halves of 34 (one under) and 33 (one under). His only bogey came at the 13th.
"But I've been taking more time off lately and this is the third senior open tournament I've won this season."
