Marc Watt on a roll, wins 2 NE District titles at

Deeside ... and he might win another tomorrow

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Inverallochy's Marc Watt, 15, is on a roll that has won him three trophies already this week - with the prospect of a fourth victory on Friday.

At the Duke's Course, St Andrews, on Wednesday, after three rounds, Watt won the Nick Faldo Series'Under-16 title and a trip to Grand Final (either in USA or Germany).
Today, at Deeside Golf Club, 15-year-old Watt won the Paul Lawrie North-east District Under-18 and Under-16s boys' titles.
Picture above, NE District president Jim Hunter presents Marc Watt with his double handful of trophies.
Tomorrow, he is back at Deeside as one of the four qualifiers for the PLF North-east District U18 match-play championship.
Watt has played competitive golf for four days solid ("It's only a round a day") but he says he is not in the least bit tired and is looking forward to making it five rewarding days in a row on Friday.
"I pitched well today and that helped me get pars or birdies when I missed some of the greens," said the Buchan loon who is the best prospect to come out of Inverallochy since Steven Young, son of the North-east District secretary George.
Steven won the Scottish boys U18 titles three years in a row from the age of 16 and the British boys' championship and also went on to become Walker Cup player. That's the target for young Watt who won the overall title today over the Bieldside course by two strokes with scores of 71 and 69 (35-34)  for level par 140.
Watt3 s 3 at the eight was his third and last birdie of the round. He parred every hole from the ninth onwards.
Runner-up was local junior member Benjamin Henderson with 72 and 70  (33-37) for 142. Henderson had a tap-in birdie 2 at the short first and an eagle 3 at the long sixth. If he had not run up a double bogey 6 at the 10th and also bogeyed the 15th, it could have been an interesting finish.
Sam Locke (Banchory) was third on 144 and defending champion Steven Roger (Cruden Bay) was fourth with 145, a shot ahead of Michael Lawrie 72-74 (who was seven over par for his last 11 holes after being four under for his first six!
The NE District U18 match-play championship semi-finals will tee off as follows tomorrow morning:
9.15am Marc Watt v Steven Roger (referee D Fleming).
9.25am Sam Locke v Benjamin Henderson (referee G Young).
The final will tee off round about 2pm.
The PLG North-east Under-14s one-round championship will start at 11am tomorrow morning.
Finlay Wallace (Portlethen), playing off 20, won the handicap trophy with a net total of 139, the same score as Jamie Seatter (McDonald Ellon) who has four of a handicap. Wallace won on a countback.
