AAM Scottish Open qualifier over two rounds

USA college student Calum shares lead on 64

with Gareth Wright at North Berwick

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Calum Hill, a 19-year-old Tantallon GC member from North Berwick, is the shock joint leader with seasoned West Linton pro Gareth Wright at the halfway stage of the £50,000 AAM Scottish Open qualifier at North Berwick Golf Club.
They both shot seven-under-par 64s in a tournament with £50,000 prize money, with the added bonus of the top five after Sunday's second round gaining a place alongside Rory McIlroy and Co  in the Scottish Open at Gullane.

Play was suspended from 8.33am to 10.45am because of heavy overnight rain which continued into the morning.
But they got going again and the sun came out with the last players teeing off after 5pm and finishing after 9pm.
The softness of the greens led to an abundance of scores under the par of 71. There were 68 scores of par and better by the end of a long day at the links.
Hill, pictured, a student at the University of Louisiana-Monroe and a former pupil at Merchiston Castle School, had eight birdies - at the second, fourth, eighth, ninth, 11th, 13th, 14th and 18th in halves of 33-31. It was not quite the perfect round for the youngster. He had a bogey at the fifth.
Wright, third in this season's Gleneagles Scottish pro championship and joint runner-up in the PGA professional championship in England, had bogey-free halves of 32 with seven birdies, at the second, fourth, eighth, ninth, 12th, 13th and 18th.
They are a shot clear of Ross Dixon (Renaissance) who had halves of 31-34, Jamie McLeary (Marriott Dalmahoy) 33-32 and Greig Hutcheon (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) who came storming home in only 29 shots - an eagle 3 at the long 11th and birdies at the 13th, 14th, 16th and 18th.
