PAUL LAWRIE LEADS BY THREE

DESPITE 7 AT PENINA'S SHORT 16th

Paul Lawrie ran up a quadruple bogey 7 at the par-3 16th (225yd) today but still leads the Paul Lawrie Foundation Pro Series tournament by three strokes with one more round to go over the Henry Cotton Championship course, which is a par 73, at Penina Hotel and Golf Resort, pictured above, near Portimao on the Algarve, writes Colin Farquharson.
In a fairly strong breeze and with a couple of "testing" pin positions, Lawrie birdied the first, fourth, sixth, 10th, 14th, 15th and 17th in a three-under-par 70 for an eight-under tally of 138.
Neil Fenwick, who had a 69 for 141 is Lawrie's nearest challenger displacing Greig Hutcheon from second place. Hutcheon had a 73 for 143.
