GUNN WINS BY SIX IN CALIFORNIA

Dornoch golf exile Jimmy Gunn scored a runaway victory yesterday (Thursday) on the eGolf Gateway Tour event at La Purisima golf course, Lompoc in California, writes Colin Farquharson
Now based at Scottsdale, Arizona, the 34-year-old Gunn, pictured, shot rounds of 73, 68 and 68 for a seven-under-par aggregate of 209 over a testing course. He won by six strokes - one of the biggest victory margins ever on this highly competitive tour - to collect the $12,000 first prize.
Joint runners-up on 215 were Americans Laddy Correa (74-75-66) and Matt Hansen(73-73-69). They each earned $6,112.
Leader by one stroke with 18 holes to go, Gunn blew the opposition away with birdies at the fourth, fifth, sixth, 11th and 13th in his final, four-under-par round. His only bogey came at the ninth.
Over the 54 holes, Gunn had 13 birdies. He had a double bogey 6 in his first round.
His mother Wendy, back home in Dornoch, follows Jimmy's golf very closely, is in contact with him most weeks and can recite off his scores at the drop of a hat.
"I'm a very proud Mum this morning," she said.
