JOHN HENRY TOP SCOT AS STEWART AND WHITE MISS CUT

McCARROLL CHALKS UP FOURTH WIN

ON ALPS TOUR EVENT IN MADRID

Irishman Brendan McCarroll scored his fourth win on the Alps Tour in the Peugeot Open at Club de Campo Villa, Madrid this week.
McCarroll made up a two-stroke overnight deficit on Spanish leader Alvaro Salto with a closing round of 68 for an 11-under-par total of 202 over the par-71 course.
Salto finished with a 71 for 203.
Englishman Tom Shadbolt (72 for 206) was third.
After a bunch of birdies, McCarroll was actually four shots clear with two holes to play but admitted later that the 40 degrees heat got to him by the finish and he was very tired over the closing holes.
McCarroll gave credit to his new coach, John Hession.
“He is different because he helped me on course and outside the course. The key is I tried to stay in the present, not thinking about the future or what would be the next shot. I keep the same routine. I used to hit some silly shots that I don’t any more."
John Henry (Clydebank and District) was the leading Scot in a share of 29th place on 214 (73-70-71).
The two other Scottish entries did not make the cut (143 and better qualified)
Ayrshire's Michael Stewart shot 76-74 for 150 to miss it by seven and James White (Lundin) had rounds of 77-74 for 151.
