Caldwell's Chris Currie scored his second win of the season with a three-under-par round of 67 in the Kirkhill Golf Club pro-am today (Friday).
A winner at Cardross in May, it was the consistent and busy Currie's 12th top 10 finish in 16 outings this season.
Fifth last off the tee in a field of more than 40 teams, Currie swooped to dislodge clubhouse leader Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf) whose 69, at that time, was the only sub-par score over a short but tricky course.
Currie's card could be summed up as the proverbial game of two halves. He was six under par after only five holes. Starting with an eagle 3, he birdied the second, short third, fourth and long fifth.
And his supply of sub-par figures dried up after that. He bogeyed the short sixth and 12th and also the 18th. But that flying start had given Currie a big enough advantage to weather the 13 holes in the doldrums.
Runner-up Fox had five birdies and four bogeys in his 69.
Four players tied for third place with par 70s - Scott Herald (Mearns Castle), Steven Taylor (Bothwell Castle), Jason McCreadie (Buchanan Castle) and Scott Catlin (Greenburn).
Currie also led the winning team of amateurs to victory with a net score of 56. They were Iain Stephen (handicap 9), Jeff Kelly (13) and Bobby Kay (5).
