ANDY FOWLIE FINISHES JOINT 11TH IN BULGARIA

EGA SECRETARY LOSES PLAY-OFF FOR

EUROPEAN MID-AMATEUR TITLE

European Golf Association general secretary Richard Heath, playing out of Lausanne Golf Club, Switzerland, lost a three-man play-off for the European mid-amateur championship at Pravets Golf Club, Bulgaria today.
Royal Aberdeen Golf Club country member Andy Fowlie, who works as a software programme manager for Nokia and has lived in Finland for a decade or so, finished joint 11th with rounds of 69, 73 and 75 for an aggregate of 217
Heath shot 79, 68 and 72 for a six-under-par total of 210, having bogeyed the 15th and 17th in his final round.
That left the door open for two Germans to match his total. Felix Banzhag who shot 68, 70 and 72, which included a vital birdie at the 14th in the home straight.
And the man who was to win the play-off at the first extra hole, Alex Koller with scores of 66, 70 and 74. He actually bogeyed the 18th in regulation play or else he would have won the title for players age 35 and over without the need for a play-off.
