GLENEAGLES SCOTTISH PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

IN-FORM CHRIS KELLY,  GRAHAM FOX

SHARE LEAD  ON FIVE-UNDER 66

Cawder's Chris Kelly carried on at Gleneagles today where he left off in the Portpatrick Dunskey pro-am on Saturday  and finished the opening day of the Scottish PGA championship sharing the lead on five-under-par 66 with Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf.
Kelly won this title in 2003, Fox likewise in 2012.

Kelly (pictured left) equalled the course record of 63 at Portpatrick and won the £1,000+ first prize in the pro-am.
Forty-eight hours later, in the first round of the £40,000  PGA in Scotland flagship tournament, Kelly had six birdies and one bogey birdied to take over the No 1 spot from the early clubhouse leader Ross Cameron (Saltire Energy) who had a bogey-free 67.
Kelly birdied the first, long sixth, long 10th, 14th, 15th and par-5 18th. His only bogey came at the second.
Fox had a similar bag of birdies to Kelly - at the first, third, long sixth, long 10th, 12th and long 18th with a bogey at the short eighth the only blemish on his card.
Cameron and Christopher Robinson (Portpatrick Dunskey) are sharing third place, one off the pace on 67.
Cameron, who had only 30 putts, birdied the long sixth, the 12th, 14th and long 18th.
"I putted fantastic today! Struggled with the pace of some of the longer putts but holed out very well. It wasn't my best ball-striking round but managed my game well," said Ross.
"I came through qualifying two weeks ago at Crieff GC. I actually won the last qualifying spot in a five-man play-off that day. The PGA Scottish Championship at Gleneagles is such a great event I really didn't want to miss it.

Robinson birided the second, fifth, sixth, 10th, 14th and 16th. He had a couple of bogeys, at the short eighth and 15th.
Former PGA champion Andrew Oldcorn (King's Acre) is bracketed with David Orr (Mearns Castle) and Mark Kerr (Marriott Dalmahoy) on 68 - but he had a golden chance to lead the field.
After birdies at the first and second, then an eagle at the sixth followed by two more birdies, at the eighth and 10th, Oldcorn, having gone out in a best of-the day 30,  was seven under par with six to play and several birdieable holes still to come.
Instead he bogeyed the 13th, 14th and 17th for 38 home. If anyone can be disappointed in shooting a three-under-par 68 round the King's course, then
Oldcorn's your man.
Defending champion Greig Hutcheon (Paul Lawrie Golf Links had a 69, the same as the Welshman he beat in a title play-off last year, Gareth Wright (West Linton).
Hutcheon have five birdies and three bogeys.
