BLAIRGOWRIE PLAYER HAS BEST THIRD-FOURTH ROUND AGGREGATE
BRADLEY NEIL THIRD IN LYTHAM
TROPHY AFTER SUNDAY BEST
Blairgowrie's Scottish boys champion Bradley Neil put on his Sunday best form to finished third in the prestigious Lytham Trophy tournament over 72 holes at the Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club's Open championship venue.
After opening rounds of 75 and 71, Neil stepped up a gear with the best Sunday two-round aggregate by anyone in the field, even the South African winner Thriston Lawrence and the Dutch runner-up Darius Van Driel.
Bradley shot rounds of 68 and 69 over the testing par-70 lay-out for a final total of three-over-par 283.
Lawrence won by a single shot with scores of 72, 69, 72 and 68 for one-over 281.
Van Driel shot 282 with rounds of 71, 73, 72 and 66.
If Neil had shot closer to par in that first round he could have been the Lytham Trophy's first Scottish winner since Lloyd Saltman in 2007.
The German who led for most of the tournament, Hurly Long, drifted out of the picture with a final-round 77 for 286.
Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie), in the mix with two rounds to go, also slipped to an eight-over-par closing round of 78 to finish joint 13th on 219.
Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie), who finished in the top 10 last year, signed off with rounds of 70-74 for 293 and a joint 19th place finish.
Alex Culverwell (Dunbar) and Scott Gibson (Southerness) tied for 25th place on 295.
Ellon's Adam Dunton was the last of the Scots who beat the halfway cut. He sagged to Sunday scores of 75 and 79 for a share of 39th place on 301.
