SCOTTISH DISABILITY GOLF GOES 

ACROSS THE BORDER

The Scottish Disability Golf Partnership made the now annual trip south of the Border to host the Northern Disabled Open at Morecambe Golf Club, Lancashire on St George's Day, April 23 and the South Lakes Masters at Carus Green Golf
Club on April 24. 

The Charity also hosted a First Swing Clinic on the
morning of the 24th at the Carus Green Driving range. The First Swing Clinic offered the opportunity for disabled golfers and others who have never played the game, to receive some professional coaching from head professional Dave Turner and his team.
Some of the world's top disabled golfers received some fine tuning on their game alongside youngsters trying out golf for the first time. 

SDGP chairman Peter Osborne said: "It was really inspiring to see youngsters with significant disabilities giving golf a try and chatting to and spending time with disabled players who have played in top level disabled competitions all
around the world.

 The Scottish Disability Golf Partnership, a registered charity, prides itself on the fact it has a pathway for those starting out in golf right up to those competing internationally at the top levels of
disabled golf, our numerous First Swing Clinics across the UK help us provide this pathway".
For the established golfers who turned up from across the UK, the Northern Disabled Open at Morecambe Golf Club was a difficult test in the wind and rain. 

Peter Osborne, from Carnforth and Morecambe GC  member,  made the most of local knowledge and  narrowly won the title, beating Derek Milne from Fife, into second by two shots.
The South Lakes Masters was held in stunning Lake District sunshine and Kerr Scott from Glasgow came out on top, narrowly holding off Stevie Cummingham from Alloa by a single shot.
In the coaches' event, Joshua Osborne, aged 10, 40-handicapper and pupil at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School in Carnforth, won both days' competition with scores of 31 and 37 Stableford points respectively. 

Joshua, son of Northern Open winner Peter, regularly attends SDGP events where he plays and guides for his dad who is registered blind.
Jim Gales MBE, founder and secretary of the SDGP, said: "It is really great to take the First Swing Clinics across the UK and give our members the chance to receive top quality coaching and introduce potential new members to the game. The SDGP is a registered charity which relies on donations to run this type of event."
