JAMES ROSS LEADING SCOT IN EUROPEAN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Edinburgh's James Ross (Royal Burgess) is the leading Scot at the halfway stage of the European men's amateur individual championship at El Prat Golf Club, Spain.
Ross, a former US college circuit player, shot 74-69 for a two-round tally of 143, one under par. He is five shots behind the leader by three strokes, Englishman Ashley Chester (73-65).
There is only one more Scot in the top 20, last year's Scottish amateur champion and San Diego University student Grant Forrest (Craigielaw).
Forrest is joint 12th on 145 after rounds of 71 and 74.
