PHILIP MCLEAN SLUMPS FROM SUBLIME TO THE RIDICULOUS IN MOROCCO

Philip McLean's joy at shooting a sub-par score in the second round making a rare cut on the German PGA Developmental Tour went pear-shaped over the final 18 holes of the Open Lixus at Port Lixus Golf Resort, Larache in Morocco today (Tuesday). The Peterhead player, attached to the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre, followed up rounds of 74 and 71 with a nightmare, 13-over-par 85 for a total of 230 which saw him plummet from joint 14th overnight to a final placing of 41st of the 42 qualifiers. McLean's cash prize was a meagre 280 Euros. He did not have a single birdie in Round 3 which saw him run up double bogey 6s at the fifth, 15th and 18th as well as seven single bogeys and only eight pars in halves of 43 and 42.Winner of the 5,000 Euros first prize was Belgium's Christopher Mivis (73-67-66 for 10-under 216) who birdied the final hole to win by one stroke from Dutchman Floris De Haas (66-73-68 for 207).
