On a wet evening at Cochrane Castle Golf Club, the team from Caldwell Golf Club met the team from Greenock Golf Club to see which would be 2011 County Cup Champions. Both teams had won their league sections and Caldwell had beaten Lochwinnoch and Greenock had taken care of Old Ranfurly in their respective semi finals.
The first game out was John Leckie for Caldwell and Craig Brown for Greenock and it was Craig who put the first points on the board with a convincing 4 and 3 win. In the second game, Caldwell’s John Anderson and Greenock’s Brian Stevenson had a great battle and the match finished all square.
Chris Hamilton kept hopes up for Caldwell with a 1 hole victory over Harry Paton but Cameron McLellan played some great golf and his 3 and 2 win over Brian Coulston meant that the cup was returning to Greenock for the first time since 1993.
