RENFREWSHIRE GOLF UNION PRESS RELEASE

Three boys from Renfrewshire, all 14 years and under, have been selected to join the Scottish Golf Union Academy programme. To get there, they had to go through a lengthy process which included being monitored by the professionals at Mearns Castle Golf Academy and then being picked out at a Talent Identification day at St Andrews.

The golf stars of the future are Kyle Turner, who plays at Cochrane Castle Golf Club, and Connor Toal, pictured right, and Ross Robertson, pictured left, both of whom are members of Old Course Ranfurly.
Graham McGee and Gary Havlin, boys’ conveners at Renfrewshire Golf Union, are delighted and will continue to provide support as the boys enter the national scheme which is a coaching programme tailored to the needs of the individual.
Their goal is inclusion in the boys’ squad from which national team players are selected.
Both Ross and Conor were picked to represent Renfrewshire in a county match against Dunbartonshire at their home course. Ross had a good win over Helensburgh’s Robert Johnston and Conor played well but lost his game against Cameron Kirkwood from Bearsden.
Congratulations and best wishes to all three boys.
