GARY SHARP OF ST ANDREWS IS NEW FIFE MATCH-PLAY CHAMPION

Gary Sharp (St Andrews) won the Fife men's match-play championship at Thornton today. He beat home-course player Alex Moir by one hole in the final.
Sharp, pictured with the trophy,  never trailed after he won the fifth to go one up but Moir pulled him back to square several times.
Sharp won the ninth but lost the 10th, won the 12th, but lost the 14th, then won both the 15th and 16th with birdies to go two up for the first time in the match.
Moir won the 17th but the 18th was halved.
Results:
Semi-finals - A Moir (Thornton) bt S Meiklejohn (Aberdour) 2 and 1, G Sharp (St Andrews bt A Hain (Ladybank) 4 and 2.
Final - Sharp bt Moir 1 hole.
