BOB THOMPSON REPORTS
Fairhaven Golf Club Secretary
On a sunny yet windy day, which made scoring extremely difficult, Curtis Griffiths (Wentworth) took the halfway lead in the Fairhaven Trophies boys and girls' tournament with a round of 75, to add to his first round of 69, for total of level par 144
Four shots behind in second place are Max Orrin (North Foreland), following two rounds of 74, Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie), who added a 75 to his opening 73, and Tom Harris (Castletown) who added a 76 to his first round of 72.
The best score on what was a difficult scoring day, which saw the CSS rise to 78, was a level par round of 72 by Timothy Martin (Worthing). This moved him into contention for the final two rounds tomorrow with a halfway total of 153
Amber Ratcliffe (Royal Cromer) held onto the girls' halfway lead, after adding an 80 to her opening round of 75, for a halfway total of 155.
She leads from Elizabeth Stebbings (Wilpshire) who added scored a 78 to her opening score of 78, and Shelby Smart (Knowle) with rounds of 77 and 79. With Bethan Popel (Long Ashton) only three shots behind Amber Ratcliffe, following rounds of 77 and 81, a very close contest for the girls' title is expected.
With the cut coming at 158, 40 players will contest the final two rounds and with more strong and blustery winds forecast a close and exciting finish is in prospect.
The Nations Cup, played over the first 36 holes, was won by Scotland (Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) (77-83), Jack McDonald (73-75) and Lawrence Allan (Alva) (78-77)) with a total of 303.
They beat England (Shelby Smart (77-79), Max Orrin (74-74) and Seb Crookall-Nixon, Workington GC (76-80)) by one shot.
