MICHAEL SMYTH LEADING SCOT ON LYTHAM TROPHY FIRST DAY

Lancashire man Jack Senior (Heysham) leads the Lytham Trophy field into today's second round at Royal Lytham St Annes Golf Club.
He got the closest in the quality field to matching the testing par of 70. Jack had a 71 to lead by one shot.
Scottish champion Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) was a late pull-out with a wrist injury.
Scots had mixed luck - Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) was, surprisingly, the best from North of the Border with a 73, followed by Scott Larkin (Royal Aberdeen) who had a 74, one ahead of Peter Latimer (St Andrews New) and Allyn Dick (Kingsknowe) but Kris Nicol (Fraserburgh), runner-up last year, could do no better than a 77. There were other big-name Scots who would have settled for a seven-over score.
Battle Trophy winner Zander Culverwell (Dunbar) crashed to an 86; Philip McLean (Peterhead) had 79; Mark Halliday (Royal Aberdeen) an 83, Ross Bell (Downfield) an 80, Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie) an 81 and Scott Crichton (Aberdour) 88.
