AUSSIE GOGGIN WINS FIRST EVENT OF 2011 NATIONWIDE TOUR

Australian Alistair Presnell led the field into the final round of the opening event of the 2011 US Nationwide Tour - but it was another "Digger," Matthew Goggin, who finished up as the winner of the weather-plagued Panama Claro Championship at Club de Golf de Panama today.
The tournament had been hampered by early afternoon storms that kept each of the first three rounds from being completed on time. The cut was not made until early Saturday afternoon.
Some 40 players returned this morning to finish round three and then, went out again for the final round.
Presnell's last effort of 73 opened the door for his challenges and compatrior Matthew Goggin was straight in with a 68 to total 269. He finished two shots clear of Presnell and American Darron Still who made up a lot of last-day ground with a 66. Goggin collected first prize of $99,000.
