HEROIC PERFORMANCE FROM CLACKMANNAN BOYS
The Clackmannan boys team put in an outstanding performance in the afternoon singles round of the Scottish Boys Area Team Championships at Peebles to lift the team to fourth position out of sixteen teams.
Over the par 70 layout, the two foursomes pairings found themselves in ninth position at lunchtime with rounds of 74 and 79. It was a different story in the afternoon when all four boys reached the turn close to even par--- John Salmond was one under, Scott Baird and Gary Chalmers were even and Lawrence Allan was one over.
On the second nine it was Gary and Lawrence who took their scores below par--- Lawrence finishing in 69 with birdies at 17 and 18 while Gary just missed out on a 68 when his putt just shaved the hole at the last. Team Captain Bill Hatley was highly pleased “After some disappointment at the morning scores, the boys came back strongly in the afternoon and were within two shots of taking the bronze medals. It was great to see a pair of 69’s opposite Clackmannan names, and the best performance by a Clackmannan boys team since the Clackmannan win in the 1970s.”
