McLaughlan's bag of birdies earns him

first win of season in Wishaw pro-am

Bothwell Castle's Fraser McLaughlan laced together a six-birdie round of five-under-par 64 to win the first prize of £1,230 in the £9,000 Wishaw Golf Club pro-am today.
It was McLaughlan's first success of the 2009 season and he did it with birdies at the first, second, fourth, 10th, 15th and 17th in halves of 33 (three under par) and 32 (two under par).
His only bogey came at the 14th.
He won by two shots from Mark King (Kingsfield Golf Centre) and by three from third-placed Scott Henderson (Kings Links).
King led the amateur trio of Gary Sirrell (handicap 9), Gordon Ritchie 96) and Ross Murdoch (14) to victory in the team event with a net score of 15-under-par 54. They won on a countback from the team led by Paul Wardell (Whitekirk) who also hit the 54 mark.
